My son, who is only four, loves many things. He loves to play chess, he loves to bowl, he loves to paint, read and bake. He also likes to paint his nails and wrap towels around his waist and pretend it’s a dress. To me, he’s just being a kid and I would never want to suppress that.
But many times I’ve been told things such as “Don’t turn him into a girl.” or “He’s too girly, he needs to man up.” And there is nothing I find more offensive.
So anyways, tonight he wanted to play a game online and he said “A baking game please!” So I put baking games into google and I came to this website called MyGames4Girls. I then noticed that many games for baking and cooking were associated with females only.
So, let me get this straight, you tell young girls their place is in the kitchen and young boys that they shouldn’t be interested in cooking or baking, then you wonder why sexism exists? These things are the reason why women are told they belong in the kitchen. And you tell boys that they should like guns, weapons and war. Because somehow those things are “cool”. But if my son doesn’t think of war as fun but rather he wears nail polish and enjoys baking then I will be happy. I don’t care how “girly” that is of him.
