Thoughts on social justice.:

senor-bizarro:

I want to get one thing straight. I am not anti-social justice. I personally think that the world can be changed for the better and that people can reach some sort of equality, and we should strive for that.

However, I am anti-social-justice-as-it-is-represented-on-Tumblr. Meaning the crazed school of social justice folks who see offense in everything and anything, the people who want members of majority groups to die en masse, the people who are so embroiled in their own line of thought that they fail to see either their own hypocrisies or their own stupidity. The people who get into social justice to either feel superior to others or just to belong to a group. The people who forget that there is a real world out there with its own rules that they have to follow in order to accomplish anything noteworthy, and can’t see it from the ivory tower they’re standing in. THOSE people.

This is nowhere near the first time I have dealt with those sorts of SJW’s- I’ve dealt with them in college and in my first go at grad school, people who meant well but carried their ideologies to extremes in order to kiss ass and have their ass kissed in return, to be “correct” all of the time, to be know-it-alls. But Tumblr is the first time I have found so many of them in one place.

I repeat, I have nothing against social justice. A lot of things in the world are unfair and need rectification. It’s just that real social justice and Tumblr!social justice are akin to mainstream Christianity and Fundamentalist Christianity, respectively: the first of the pair is more focused on action and love, the second one on not violating the rules or rocking the boat within the group. And I really think that love and direct action will win out over empty bragging and following rules without question.
