He just wants a place where he can feel at home. And Jimmy is kind of trying to give that to him by inviting him to relax and help himself but Richard doesn’t know how to even begin behaving normally because nothing about him is normal. The second Richard starts to feel normal someone will do a double-take at his face or cringe watching him eat and all that alienation will come rushing back. And he doesn’t want to be greedy. He really wants people to like him. But this is 1921 and men aren’t exactly big on FEEEEELINGS so how in fuck is he supposed to tell anyone what’s going on when he can’t name the problem himself? His fingers don’t hesitate to pull the trigger. But they hesitate to take a third biscuit offered to him by a friend.
